Your Nervous System, Live!
Explore how your brain, nerves, and muscles work together with Greg Gage: neuroscientist, TED speaker, and co-author of How Your Brain Works, published by MIT Press.
Get hands-on with real neuroscience equipment, try an experiment, and discover the electrical signals behind everyday movements.
When
Thursday, January 14, 2027
5–6 p.m.
Where
Ypsilanti District Library, Whittaker branch
5577 Whittaker Road, Ypsilanti, MI 48197

Experience your nervous system in action
Try the Human-Human Interface and discover how a signal recorded from one person’s muscles can trigger movement in another person’s hand through electrical stimulation.
Hear an insect’s neurons crackle in real time and explore how your brain, nerves, and muscles communicate.
No lab coat required, just curiosity.
Meet Greg Gage
Greg makes neuroscience something you can experience for yourself. A TED Senior Fellow and co-founder of Backyard Brains, he brings brain science to students and curious learners through hands-on experiments.
He is the co-author, with Tim Marzullo, of How Your Brain Works, published by MIT Press, and appears in TED’s original series DIY Neuroscience.
What does a neuroscientist do?
As part of the library’s STEM career programming, Greg will briefly introduce what neuroscientists do and the different paths a career in science can take. He’ll share his own journey from engineering to neuroscience and starting Backyard Brains.
This event is part of Ypsilanti District Library’s STEM programming, funded by Toyota.
